Ghana giants Asante Kotoko are closing in on a deal to sign former Black Stars regular Mohammed Awal, who has received his clearance from FIFA.
The 28-year-old former Maritzburg United player has been ineligible to play for the last six months after a dispute between himself and former club Raja Casablanca.
The dispute scuppered a potential move to Russian side Arsenal Tula and Awal has since moved back to his home country Ghana.
According to GHANASoccernet, he received his clearance from FIFA last week and is therefore a free agent, cleared to sign for any club of his choice.
Asante Kotoko appear to be closest to securing the services of a player who helped them win the Ghanaian championship six years ago.
A deal will reportedly be wrapped up in the coming days, though Awal wants a clause in his contract which allows him to leave if a foreign club makes an offer for him.
