South African side Platinum Stars edged out Mozambican club Uniao Do Songo 1-0 in the 2017 CAF Confederation Cup encounter on Saturday.

The preliminary round first leg clash took place at Stars' world class arena, Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the North West province city of Rustenburg.

The first real chance of the game came 10 minutes into the second-half when Benson Shilongo's header was cleared off the goal-line.

The Namibia international joined Stars from Botswana giants Gaborone United prior to the current 2016/17 season and he has already impressed.

With his side struggling to convert their chances, Stars head coach Cavin Johnson decided to introduce veteran attacker Robert Ng'ambi.

The Malawi international made an immediate impact as he broke the deadlock for the home side in the 63rd minute making it 1-0 to Stars.

Dikwena managed to contain the visitors in the remaining minutes of the first-round encounter and ultimately, they emerged 1-0 winners at home.

The second-leg encounter is scheduled to take place next weekend in Mozambique with Stars leading 1-0 on aggregate.
