South Africa Under-20 head coach Thabo Senong was pleased to have faced Zambia Under-20 in an international friendly on Sunday afternoon.
Two goals from Enoch Mwepu and Edward Chiluyo helped Junior Chipolopolo overcome Amajita 2-1 with Liam Jordan netting for the latter in Lusaka, Zambia.
Senong felt that they needed such a challenge after losing to Junior Chipolopolo in the 2016 Under-20 COSAFA Cup final by the same scoreline.
"This was a good friendly for us; we really needed such a challenge. I believe this match was far better than the COSAFA Cup final," Senong said.
"I will be honest, we struggled in the first half, the heat was unbearable but the players had to adapt to that and the pitch and we had a good second half," he added.
"But once we settled in the second half, we managed to make runs, created some chances and I believe we dominated the second half.
"We still have some work to do as we noticed there were some gaps here and there."
Both teams were using the friendly game as preparation for the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals which will held in Zambia from 26 February - 12 March 2017.
