English League One bottom club Coventry City hope the goals and experience of former Nigeria international Yakubu Aiyegbeni will save them from relegation.

Coventry City completed the signing of Yakubu on a deal which will run till the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

The 34-year old striker has wealth of experience in English football having played for Portsmouth and Middlesborough, Blackburn Rovers, Everton, Leicester City and Reading.

The team coach Russell Slade said he is happy to have the Nigeria striker in his team.

"We’re pleased to have secured the signing of Yakubu, who brings vast experience and a terrific goal record,” he told the club’s website.

“His professional career speaks for itself, having scored consistently at the highest level of English football, and will act as a superb role model for the younger players.

“He is astute on the ball, has clear quality and presence, and we’ll continue to work on his match fitness as we prepare for the final 16 games of this season.”

Yakubu will wear jersey number 22 for Coventry.
