Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly
Wednesday Feb 15, 2017. 10:00
Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny will represent the African continent in tonight’s UEFA Champions League action.
Koulibaly is set for a tough challenge tonight when his Napoli side heads to the Bernabeu to face mighty Real Madrid in the first leg match of the teams’ last 16 tie.
Napoli, who also boast the talents of Algeria’s Faouzi Ghoulam and Guinean Amadou Diawara, topped Group B ahead of Benfica, Besiktas and Dynamo Kyiv, but would have been most displeased to see their efforts earn them a meeting with Real.
The Spanish side only managed a second place finish in Group F behind Borussia Dortmund, though they went unbeaten in the process and still boast one of the most potent sides in world football, led by the Portuguese master Cristiano Ronaldo.
Elsewhere, Nigerian Alex Iwobi and Egyptian Mohamed Elneny could feature for Arsenal when they take a trip to Germany to face Bayern Munich.
The Gunners have often faltered against the big teams in Europe, but under Carlo Ancelotti the Bavarians only managed a second-place finish in Group D behind Atletico Madrid and there is a sense they are ‘there for the taking’.
Iwobi and Elneny will hope to play a key role at the Allianz Arena as Arsenal look to shrug off their underachievers tag in the Champions League.
