Bidvest Wits climbed back to the summit of the Absa Premiership standings, following a 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

A first-half brace from Frank Mhango enough to lead the Clever Boys to all three points, with Jackson Mabokgwane seeing red for the hosts following a cynical foul with 13 minutes of regulation time remaining.

Following an early tester for Darren Keet, it was Bidvest Wits who created the first clear-cut chance at goal with Mabokgwane called into a good save to deny first Phakamani Mahlambi, and then James Keene from the rebound with eight minutes on the clock.

Thembinkosi Lorch and Luvoyo Memela then tested Keet in quick succession, but it would be the Clever Boys to grab the lead as they looked to build on their recent stronghold pver the Buccaneers.

Mhango weaving his way past the defensive-sandwich of Thabo Matlaba and Happy Jele before curling an unstoppable shot into the back of the net in the 29th minute.

The Malawi international completed his brace o the cusp of half-time; out-jumping
Abbubaker Mobara to nod home from a corner-kick, 2-0. Bidvest Wits in control at the break.

Pirates looked a better side after the interval and pulled a goal back through Jele in the 61st minute. Keet unable to hold onto Dove Wome's header as the Buccaneers defender swooped home from close range for the Buccaneers first goal of the year.

Pirates, though, again proved their own worst enemy as Mabokgwane received his marching orders for handling the ball outside the area in the 77th minute. With all three substitutions having been made, Jele was forced to man the sticks for Pirates.

The Sea Robbers stalwart showed his class, pulling off a top save to deny Mhango his hat-trick, but in the end it would be Bidvest Wits to walk away with the spoils.
