Italian Serie B side Ternana Calcio have announced that they have signed Malian midfielder Mohamed Sissoko as a free agent.
The 32-year-old, who was last on the books of Indian Super League Pune City, will play for Ternana until the end of the current season.
“My first impressions are very positive, talking with team manager I got to appreciate what I was asked and here I am,” the French-born player told a press conference.
Sissoko, who has also played for the likes of Valencia, Liverpool, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Fiorentina in his career, was delighted to be back in Italian football, albeit at a lower level.
“I really wanted to go back to Italy because here I grew a lot as a man and as a player,” explained the former Malian international, who represented the Eagles over 30 times.
“I had other chances, both in Italy and abroad, but I chose Ternana, although I have never played in [Serie] B,” he added.
