Lebogang Manyama scored the only goal of the game as Cape Town City claimed a 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in an Absa Premiership clash at Athlone Stadium on Friday evening.

The Citizens captain with his 11th goal of the season as Eric Tinkler's men completed the league double over the current African and South African champions.

Victory moves City back to the top of the log standings, while for Pitso Mosimane and his Brazilians, it was a second defeat in succession in the Mother City; having lost to Ajax Cape Town earlier this season.

The first chance of the match fell to Lehlohonolo Majoro in the first minute, but having done the difficult part in out-jumping Wayne Sandilands, he could only succeed in seeing his attempt wide of goal.

City continued to enjoy the better chances and ended the half like they started it; Majoro missing a gilt-edged chance. This time the forward seeing his attempt wide from close range following a lung-busting run down the right flank by Thamsanqa Mkhize.

The only goal of the game came with 58 minutes on the clock. Manyama beating Sandilands after being put through on goal by Majoro; to subsequently pull level with Tendai Ndoro on the scoring charts.

Sundowns went in immediate search of the equaliser with Robyn Johannes doing well to clear Anthony Laffor's attempt off the line on the hour mark.

The visitors continued to surge forward, in turn creating chances for City on the counter-attack, but despite all the goalmouth action the game would only see the one goal. City continuing their dream run.
