Former Ivory Coast captain Yaya Toure believes that Sergio Aguero should never have been written off by his critics and has praised the striker for his current form.
The Argentine lost his place in Manchester City’s starting XI to Brazilian youngster Gabriel Jesus in the early stages of 2017.
However, since the youngster has been sidelined with injury, Aguero has roared back with some superb form to silence his critics and re-establish himself in the Citizens’ line-up.
Aguero’s resurgence is no surprise to Toure, another who found himself out of the team earlier in the season but is once again a regular on coach Pep Guardiola’s team sheets.
"He [Auguero] is proving to be one of the best strikers in the world,” said Toure.
“Now he is experiencing a good period of form, he is a very important player for us.
“And to think that people thought he was finished ..."
Aguero and Toure are set to feature for Man City in their Premier League clash against Stoke City at the Etihad Stadium tonight.
