Aliou Badji's first half goal ensured Senegal are through to the final of the 2017 U20 Africa Cup of Nations when they beat Guinea 1-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Thursday evening.
Following this result, the Young Lions of Teranga will now renew their rivalry in the final against hosts Zambia which is set for Sunday afternoon at the National Heroes Stadium.
There were no clear cut opportunities in the opening 10 minutes.
The first chance came in the 13th minute when Badji headed home a cross from the right flank through Jacques Ndecky, 1-0.
Guinea pushed forward probing for their equaliser and Yamodou Toure's strike hit the woodwork from close range midway through the first half
Skipper Aly Camara also came close to finding the back of the net when his powerful header hit the woodwork for the second time in the 23rd minute.
On the stroke of half time, Senegal had a chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty as skipper Camara was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box, but Ibrahima Niane's penalty was saved by goalkeeper Moussa Camara.
It was 1-0 at half time to Joseph Koto's side.
Senegal piled pressure on Guinea upon their return from the tunnel, but it was Guinea's Momo Yansane whose shot nearly beat keeper, Lamine Sarr in the 69th minute.
Beautiful football displayed by Guinea on the edge of the area saw Yansane's effort sailing over the cross bar with 11 minutes to go.
As the rain continued to pour in Ndola, Guinea wasted another golden opportunity in the dying minutes when Ibrahima Sylla's header went inches wide off the left post.
The loss for the Young Syli Nationale means they will face off against South Africa in the third-place play off on Sunday before the final clash.
