Orlando Pirates ended a 12 game winless streak after beating EC Bees FC 3-1 in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 match at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Dove Wome, Mpho Makola and Thamsanqa Gabuza handed the Buccaneers their first win of 2017 as they progressed into the Last 16 of the Nedbank Cup.

Bees’ consolation goal was scored by Bongani Chikila as they exit the cup competition at the Last 32 stage.

Bees were never really in the match as Pirates dictated terms from the first whistle.

Wome opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Makola drove into the box, beating two defenders, before squaring for the Togolese striker to slot home, 1-0.

Three minutes later Pirates came close to scoring their second goal when Wome provided a pin-point cross for Bernard Morrison, but his header struck the post.

Despite controlling the flow of the game Pirates could not add to the score before half time.

Seven minutes after the break Pirates did double their lead when a spectacular long range free-kick from Makola found the back of the net, 2-0.

Seven minutes into the second half the Buccaneers did finally double their lead when a super long range free-kick from Makola found the corner of the net, 2-0.

In the 55th minute Bees pulled a goal back after some sloppy defence allowed Bongani Chikila to break through on goal and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 2-1.

Pirates restored their two goal advantage ten minutes later when Wome drove into the box and squared for Gabuza who had an easy tap in from close range, 3-1.

Bees tried to find their way back into the match but Pirates closed up shop at the back and held on for their first win of 2017.
