Benin striker Rudy Gestede has spoken out on his clash with Eric Bailly in Middlesbrough’s home loss to Manchester United.
The Red Devils defeated Boro 3-1 at the Riverside on Sunday, but the Premier League match was marred by clashes between the players toward the end of the match and in the tunnel after the final whistle.
The conflict centred around the two African players, who squared off soon after substitute Gestede had scored his side’s goal and given them hope of a comeback.
Middlesbrough player Ben Gibson said in the wake of the game that he thought Bailly had bitten his teammate, but Gestede has explained that this was not the case.
"We had a few words together, it was nothing major," Gestede said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"He gave me a hug and a kiss, that's it. I didn't feel anything.
"Ben thought he bit me, so that's why he reacted like he did. But I told him now we were just talking, there was no problem."
