Goalkeeping legend Essam El-Hadary has explained that Egypt are focused on gearing up for the start of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The North Africans will face Togo in a friendly on March 28 and they are using the match as preparation for 2019 AFCON group phase qualifiers. Egypt begin their campaign with a clash against Tunisia in June.
“We are not thinking about the last AFCON or the World Cup qualifiers as our main goal now is the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which starts from the Tunisia game,” El-Hadary is quoted by KingFut.
“The training camp is important for the technical staff to add new players to the squad in a beneficial way for them, and at the right time. That’s what distinguishes the current staff.
“The national team didn’t reach the AFCON final thanks to the staff and players only, as the fans and media are behind that too and I ask them to continue their support to achieve all of our goals.”
Egypt finished as runners-up in the 2017 AFCON, losing 2-1 in the final to Cameroon.
