Malawi and Jomo Cosmos midfielder Micium Mhone has become the latest victim of crime in South Africa after he was robbed of R3000 and his mobile phone.

The Flames international is reported to have had a brush with death on Saturday in Johannesburg after six thugs attacked him.

The Nyasa Times website reports that Mhone confirmed the sad news in an interview from his base with the National First Division side.

Mhone said he was stabbed in the hand during the attack, but a person he was with was seriously injured as the robbers fled with his cash and Samsung mobile phone.

“The incident happened around 6pm along the End street. They stabbed me on the hand but my colleague is the one who was severely injured,” said Mhone.

“We went to hospital and received treatment and I am feeling much better now.

“I just thank God I survived because I could have been dead by now.”

Mhone's incident follows that of Zimbabwean and Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Khama Billiat, who also experienced robbery at gunpoint in the past few weeks.
