AfricanFootball reviews Saturday’s CAF Confederation Cup action, which saw nine teams book their place in the group stage of the continental competition.

After Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien sealed their place in the last 16 on Friday, they were joined by compatriots Club African, who romped to a 4-2 home win over plucky Mauritians AS Port Louis 2000 to claim a 6-3 aggregate triumph.

South Africa’s Bidvest Wits are out of African competition for the year after losing 1-0 at Egypt’s Smouha FC, but Ugandan side KCCA enjoyed better fortune in the land of the Pharaohs: the Kampala side may have lost 1-0 to Al Masry, but with the tie locked at 1-1 on aggregate, they were able to get the better of the North Africans in post-match penalties.

Swaziland side Mbabane Swallows made headlines with their stunning 4-2 home win over Congo’s AC Leopards - previous champions of the Confed Cup - to claim a 4-3 aggregate triumph, while Angola’s Recreativo Libolo did just enough to overcome Madagascar’s CNaPS Sport on the away goals rule.

There were emphatic home wins for Zesco United (3-0) and MC Alger (4-0) over Enugu Rangers and Young Africans respectively, confirming comfortable progression into the group stage, while FUS Rabat drew 1-1 away to fellow Moroccans Maghreb Fez to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Saturday’s action was brought to a close by a 3-2 win for Morocco’s IR Tanger over Guinea’s Horoya, which wast enough to prevent the West Africans taking a 4-3 aggregate win and a place in the group stage of the competition.

Sunday will see six matches played in the competition, including the first leg clash between Nigeria’s Rivers United and Rwandan club Rayon Sport.
