Chippa United and Jomo Cosmos will meet in the Nedbank Cup for the first time when they battle for semifinal berth on 22 April 2017. The match is scheduled for the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, kick-off at 15h00.

Chippa earned their place in the last eight of the competition thanks to wins over National First Division side Witbank Spurs (1-0 at home) and fellow top flight club Polokwane City (2-0 at home). The Eastern Cape side has never won the Nedbank Cup, nor reached the final.

Cosmos provided the biggest upset of the previous round when they ousted Bidvest Wits on penalties (after the teams played to a 1-1 draw after extra time) at the Tsakane Stadium. Their first round result was a comfortable 3-0 win over lower league side United Rovers.

The Gauteng club are previous winners of the Nedbank Cup, defeating AmaZulu 1-0 in the 1990 final. They also appeared in the finals of the 1986, 1991, 1992 and 1996 editions.

The teams have never met in a cup match before and their head-to-head history in top flight terms is limited to two PSL matches played last season: Ezenkosi claimed a 4-3 home win in November 2015, while the return match in February 2016 was won 2-1 by the Chilli Boys.
