Colchester United defender Richard Brindley has been linked with a move to Egyptian giants Zamalek.
Brindley shares the same agent with Ivory Coast striker Souleymane Coulibaly, who has proven to be a hit in the Egyptian Premier League since signing from Scottish side Kilmarnock earlier in the year.
KingFut reports that Brindley has Egyptian heritage (his grandfather hails from the North African country) and he would therefore not be registered as a foreign player were he to sign for the White Knights.
“It’s very early days I’d say. I think this came about due to the Coulibaly deal and other players they and other clubs have been looking at in U.K. for a while,” Brindley’s agent Lee Payne told KingFut.
“I think you will see a lot more UK players coming out there.”
Brindley’s contract with Colchester expires in the European summer and Payne revealed that talks are underway.
“Yes we’ve been talking to them [Zamalek] and a couple of others about a number of UK players, one of whom is Richard. I don’t understand why or how this story has emerged now.”
