Coach Mike Mutebi’s KCCA FC have qualified for the semi finals of the Uganda Cup after knocking out Police FC 1-0 on Sunday.
In the last quarter final match played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, the two teams needed 120 minutes of action to decide who marches to the next phase.
After 90 minutes of play, the game went into extra 30 minutes where Derrick Nsibambi netted after 100 minutes. But the hosts Police FC had created many more scoring chances that they failed to capitalise on.
KCCA FC who played without first choice goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan, Timothy Awany, Brian Majwega and Muzamir Mutyaba defended well to keep Police FC at bay.
After conceding the goal Police FC pushed more players in attack and were lucky to get a penalty. KCCA FC defender Dennis Rukundo fouled veteran Anthony Bongole after 114 minutes in the box and referee Rajab Bakasambe awarded a penalty kick. Rahmat Senfuka had his effort parried away by goalkeeper Douglas Kisembo.
“I am disappointed with this loss because we had all the chances to win the game,” a bitter Police FC coach Abudallah Mubiru told AfricanFootball.com after the game.
A relaxed KCCA FC coach whose team leads the Azam Uganda League log and are also in the Uganda Cup semi finals and the group stage of the CAF Total Confederations Cup said he was glad the players responded well after absorbing a lot of the Police FC attack. “I am happy we beat Express FC by the same margin last Friday and now also got a good result,” he added.
KCCA FC will now face Express FC in a two legged semi final. The second semi final will see Sadolin Paints FC battle Paidha Black Stars.
