Highlands Park defeated Chippa United 1-0 in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Friday night.

As a result the Lions of the North move up to the 14th spot on the league standings, while the Chilli Boys move down to the 15th spot on the table.

Chippa shot-stopper Daniel Akpeyi was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first-half as Highlands launched attacks in search of the opening goal.

The Nigeria international did well to deny Highlands midfielder Zamuxolo Ngalo, the former South Africa international just before the half-hour mark.

Highlands midfielder Mothobi Mvala was shown a yellow card for dissent in the 38th minute as the Chippa defence continued to frustrate the home side.

The Lions of the North and the Chilli Boys were locked at 0-0 during the halftime break following a relatively quiet first-half on a chilly night.

Akpeyi was finally beaten in the second-half as the Lions of the North's pressure paid off following the introduction of Seun Ledwaba in the 53rd minute.

Ledwaba was fouled in the Chippa box and Highlands were awarded a penalty which was converted by Collins Mbesuma to give the home side the lead 15 minutes later.

Chippa had a chance to level matters from a free-kick with 13 minutes left, but Rhulani Manzini's effort from the effort was saved by Highlands keeper Marlon Heugh.

Highlands did contain Chippa in the remaining minutes of the league encounter and the former emerged 1-0 winners on the night.
