Zambian President Edgar Lungu has congratulated the U20 side for beating Portugal 2-1 at the U20 FIFA World Cup in South Korea.

Beston Chambeshi's men claimed their first Group C win courtesy of goals from Edward Chilufya and Fashion Sakala on Sunday.

In a statement released to the media, Lungu commended the junior Chipolopolo technical team and players for the triumph.

“The continued victory of this team demonstrates the reality of unlimited possibility that always beckons us,” said Lungu.

"The extraordinary unity of purpose among these young people creates the winning team spirit that continues to propel them from victory to another.

“Let us focus on national unity and learn from footballers that team spirit is the best way to propel this great national forward.”

Meanwhile, the president noted that the Junior Chipolopolo are giving the nation a great example that across all other spheres of national life, the country can win.

On the other hand, Lungu has since praised Football Association (FAZ) president Andrew Kamanga and his executive for their able leadership and commitment to take football to another level.

Zambia will now meet Iran in their second match on Wednesday, 24 May, getting underway at 10:00 (CAT).
