One of South Africa's oldest football clubs, AmaZulu could soon be back in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

AmaZulu general manager Lunga Sokhela has confirmed that they are working towards purchasing the PSL status of Thanda Royal Zulu.

Thanda gained promotion to the PSL after winning the 2016/17 National First Division (NFD) title.

Thanda's club chairman Pierre Delvaux has revealed that they would consider selling their top-flight status.

Sokhela has since disclosed that AmaZulu and Thanda have reached an agreement in principle.

"That's a bit difficult to comment on,” Sokhela told

"But I can confirm there was a discussion between the two clubs [AmaZulu and TRZ], and now we are waiting to see what it is that the [PSL] executive will say."

Pressed further by the website, Sokhela said: "We can say so."

AmaZulu and Thanda will now wait for the PSL to give the deal the green light.
