In his autobiography, Zimbabwe's football legend Memory Mucherahowa has come out to defend claims made in his book that former club Dynamos encouraged the use of muti.

Mucherahowa issued a book (Soul of Seven Million Dreams) about a month ago, but it has sent shock waves through the country among the club's football fanatics.

According to the BBC website, the legend says that the book is an open and honest account of his time with the 1998 CAF Champions League finalists.

In the book, a number of shocking revelations are mentioned including pre-match juju rituals and concoctions, but the former Dynamos skipper said he expected the book to rub some people the wrong way.

"The aim of my book was to be truthful and not offend anyone," said the 49-year-old former Zimbabwe international.

"Hopefully people will respect the fact that I've been very honest. There are so many things happening in African football which people don't know about so I decided to share my experiences with the fans.

"I don't know whether it [juju] works but when I was doing it, it was because it was part of the package of playing football."

Mucherahowa also revealed in the book that it was his responsibility to ensure the juju rituals were followed.

"It was all about survival because we had families to feed and sometimes we'd end up doing things we didn't believe in nor understand,” adds the legend.

"I'm not saying juju works but it was part of football when I was playing and I'm sure it's part of football even today."

He retired in 2001 after leading Dynamos for eight years and urged players to speak out regarding the use of juju within the African game.
