Khenissi inspires Esperance to victory over Sundowns

Yassine Khenissi inspired Esperance du Tunis to a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2017 CAF Champions League Group C match in Pretoria on Friday.

The win sees the Tunisian side climb to the top of the group standings, while South African's Sundowns are placed second following the encounter which was played at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

The match got off a lively start as both teams searched for an early goal and it was the visitors, who broke the deadlock just six minutes into the game.

Anice Badri set-up Yaha Yassine Khenissi, who hit the back of the net with a well-taken powerful shot to make it 1-0 to Esperance.

However, the lead only lasted for 13 minutes as the Brazilians piled some presssure on the Blood and Gold defence and they equalized.

Percy Tau played a good pass to his Sundowns teammate Sibusiso Vilakazi, who netted with a decent finish to make it 1-1.

Esperance goalkeeper Moez Ben Cherifia a made good save from Sundowns defender Tebogo Langerman towards the half-time - ensuring the first-half ended at 1-1.

A relatively quiet second-half followed as Sundowns and Esperance were both cautious, while making slow build-ups from the back.

Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango was called into action on the hour-mark and the Uganda international made a comfortable save.

His teammate Leonardo Castro had a chance to score a few minutes later, but the Colombian forward missed the target as Sundowns looked to take the lead.

The visitors were awarded a penalty in the closing stages of the match and Khenissi scored from the spot-kick - sealing Esperance's 2-1 victory.
