Stellenbosch FC frustrated Black Leopards and forced a 0-0 draw in their 2016/17 Promotional Playoff match on Saturday afternoon at Thohoyandou Stadium.

In the wake of the stalemate, Sammy Troughton's charges top the log table with two points from two matches.

In their next match, they will face Baroka FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday June 10 as they will hope to claim their first three points.

Although the tie started like a house on fire, it was Junaid Sait who nearly caught the Leopards defence napping as he came close to breaking the deadlock with a powerful header in the sixth minute.

Lidoda Duvha looked for an immediate response two minutes later and goalkeeper Washington Arubi closed down the angle to force Mwape Musona's effort wide in a one-on-one situation.

The 31st minute saw Arubi coming out of his line deny Ivan Mahangwahaya in the penalty area from a well placed pass by Siphelele Ntshangase, and the rebound from Musonda went wide.

With five minutes to go, Marks Munyai spotted Arubi off his line and attempted a long range shot which went inches wide of the crossbar.

Despite their dominance, Jean Losciuto's men were disappointed to go the tunnel with no goals to show for their gutsy performance, 0-0 at half time.

The second stanza saw the Venda-based outfit continuing where they left off and Ntshangase picked out Mahangwahaya in the box, but his shot hit the cross bar and bounced back, allowing Arubi to collect in the 60th minute.

Ntshangase also came close to bagging the lead for Lidoda Duvha in the 79th minute but his curler went wide of Arubi's left woodwork.

In the dying minutes of the encounter, Stellenbosch were dealt a huge blow when they were reduced to 10 men when Diego Brown was show his marching order for dissent.

The draw for Leopards sees them placed at number three on the log table with one point from this draw and will meet Baroka FC next Wednesday, 7 June.
