Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez has been recommended as a transfer target for Barcelona by the great Lionel Messi.
The Catalan giants were beaten to the La Liga title by arch rivals Real Madrid and they are expected to have a busy European summer when new boss Ernesto Valverde arrives.
The former Athletic Bilbao man will replace Luis Enrique, who is stepping away from Barca after three years in charge.
Messi is a hugely influential figure at the club and according to Don Balon he has recommended several players as potential transfer targets to the club’s bosses.
Foremost among them is Mahez, who was highly influential in Leicester City’s Premier League title success in 2015/16 and their strong run in the UEFA Champions League this past season.
The Algerian is contracted to the Foxes until 2020, but it is widely expected that he will leave the King Power Stadium in search of Champions League football.
Messi has also recommended Marco Verratti of Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.
