Asamoah Gyan has explained that defeating Ethiopia in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier this weekend will boost Ghana’s confidence.

The Black Stars will host the Waylay Antelopes in their opening Group F match in Kumasi on Sunday afternoon.

Gyan, who has retained his captaincy under the tenure of new coach James Kwesi Appiah and remains Ghana’s all-time leading scorer, expects his team to dominate the match.

“Winning this game will boost our confidence for the remaining qualifying games. We have to go all out,” Gyan said in a press conference, as quoted by GHANASoccernet.

“I think moving the game to Kumasi is a good idea because it has been [a while] since we played there and we will do everything possible to put the smiles back in the faces of the fans.”

The other Group F match sees Sierra Leone host Kenya in Freetown on Saturday.
