After scoring a goal against Nigeria on Saturday, South African striker Percy Tau has urged his teammates to remain level headed and the rest of the continent to recognize their quality.
The Mamelodi Sundowns forward netted Bafana Bafana's second goal against the Super Eagles in Uyo as they secured their first 2-0 win over the West Africans.
When Bafana landed in the country on Monday, Tau said they had a chance to score more than two goals in their 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
"We don't want to be too confident just because we beat Nigeria,” Tau tells the Sowetan.
“But I do think we should also give ourselves some credit. We worked hard for this win and we're glad that we won against Nigeria.
"We could have scored more goals. Overall we did so well. We're South Africans. It's about time we get the same respect.”
Following the win, the 1996 African champions have three points and sit at number two in the group behind Libya, on goal difference.
Meanwhile, Tau and his Bafana teammates will hope to continue with their winning form when they face Zambia in a friendly on Tuesday.
The match against Chipolopolo is set to be staged at Moruleng Stadium on Tuesday night, getting underway at 19:0
