Following the departure of coach Eric Tinkler to SuperSport United last week, Cape Town City have announced the appointment of Benedict McCarthy as his replacement.

In the past few days, the former Bafana Bafana striker was linked with the job to take over the Citizens and the club confirmed his arrival on Tuesday.

On the other hand, previous reports indicated that two former Orlando Pirates coaches in Ruud Krol and Muhsin Ertugral were linked to the job.

However, the UEFA Champions League winner with FC Porto under Jose Mourinho in 2004, has since reunited with his former Seven Stars/Ajax Cape Town boss, John Comitis.

In a statement released by the 2016/17 Telkom Knockout Cup champions, McCarthy has signed a three-year deal.
