Cameroon head coach Hugo Broos believes that his side will be very competitive at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia.

The Indomitable Lions qualified for the global competition after winning the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Gabon.

But Cameroon will be without Ambroise Oyongo in Russia. The left-back suffered an injury during the team's 1-0 win over Morocco in 2019 AFCON qualifier in Yaounde last weekend.

Nevertheless, Belgian tactician Hugo Broos, the Indomitable Lions says Cameroon remain a competitive side as they prepare to take on Chile in their first match in Russia on Sunday.

"The Cameroon team remains competitive," Broos told the Cameroonian Football Association website.

"Although it is annoying to lose a player, of course. But hey, that's not why we should start the competition by saying "we will do our best".

"No. I do not set a goal, but when you start a competition you have the ambition to go as far as possible."

The Indomitable Lions are scheduled to face Southern American champions Chile at the Otkrytiye Arena in Moscow. Kick-off is at 19h00 CAT.
