For the third time in a row, the 2017 Maize Cup has hit the North West Province as it was launched on Tuesday, 27 June 2017 in the City of Matlosana, Klerksdorp.
The organisers, North West Provincial Government, Optimize and the Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ) launched the event as the four clubs were also announced.
With well-known Sports Anchor Carol Tshabalala hosting the proceedings on a chilly day, it was announced that Botswana Premier League giants Township Rollers will join this year's edition.

Although the second edition in 2016 did not have four teams, Orlando Pirates made their first appearance after beating Dikwena 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out after extra time.
