Free State Stars assistant coach David Vilakazi has rubbished rumours that the club was up for sale.

Ea Lla Koto will make their debut in the annual Maize Cup next month when they face Platinum Stars on July 15 in the first semifinal.

Yet speculation claimed that the Free State club was up for sale in recent times, following on from reports last year that Moroka Swallows tried to buy Stars’ top flight franchise.

“Nobody bid to buy Free State Stars [this past season]. It was just a rumour,” Vilakazi is quoted by KickOff.

“You know, rumours will always be rumours – and people are still remembering what happened the previous season when the season was about to start, when people saying the team was sold and all that.

“But now there is nothing like that. We are just looking forward to the new [2017/18] season.”

Participating in the Maize Cup will form part of Ea Lla Koto’s preseason preparations, with the club looking to put together a much stronger campaign in the PSL this time around.
