Ahead of the upcoming 2017/18 Premier Soccer League season, Orlando Pirates have announced the signing of central midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni from Chippa United.

Sangweni has been a subject of speculation in the past few seasons as he was previously linked with a move to the Soweto giants.

The move follows reports that the Empangeni-born player was training with Bidvest Wits in an aim to move to Braamfontein.

However, the Bafana Bafana midfielder has since followed in his brother's footsteps, Siyabonga, who played for the Buccaneers in the past few seasons before retiring.

“Orlando Pirates is delighted to announce the signing of Thamsanqa Sangweni from Chippa United,” reads a statement from the club.

“Sangweni joins the Buccaneers after agreeing terms on a deal that will see him part of the family until 2020.

“The 28-year old becomes the second Sangweni to join the Mighty Buccaneers following his elder brother Siyabonga Sangweni’s very successful stint at the Club where he became a treble winner in his first season with the club.”
