Stoke City striker Mame Diouf has reflected on being converted into a defender ahead of the new 2017/18 season.
The 28-year-old centre forward has impressed in the wing-back position during City's pre-season friendly matches.
Mark Hughes, the City head coach, has since revealed that the Senegalese international is likely to feature as a wing-back in the 2017/18 EPL season.
"I am a striker so it is hard for me to understand, but he must see something in me," Diouf told Stoke City+.
"It is very difficult because I haven't ever seen myself as a right back or a wing-back, I think the manager has tricked me."
The former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers frontman doesn't have a problem playing as a wing-back for Hughes' side.
"I thought that I would just be filling in initially when I was first played in this role, but I am still here now," he added.
"I just want to play football though, so am happy to try anything that the manager feels is right - we will see how it goes."
City will face off with Everton FC at the Goodison Park in their first 2017/18 EPL match on Saturday.
