Asamoah Gyan’s Kayserispor were handed a heavy defeat in their opening match of the 2017/18 Turkish Super Lig on Monday night.

The Black Stars skipper made his official debut in the final fixture of the first round, as Kayserispor took on Istanbul giants Galatasaray at the Turk Telecom Stadium.

Gyan had an injury scare in the warm-up to the match, but was cleared to remain in the starting XI for Marius Sumudica’s side.

Gala dominated the clash and ran away with a 4-1 victory thanks to goals from Tolga Cigerci, Moroccan Younes Belhanda and a brace by Bafetimbi Gomis. Kayserispor’s consolation goal was netted by Levent Gulen.

Gyan played 71 minutes of the match before he was replaced by Geofrey Mujangi Bia.

The result sees Gala at the top of the log thanks to goal difference, while Kayserispor are placed last.

Gyan and his team will hope for an improved performance when they host Goztepe for their second match on Sunday, August 20.
