Al Ahly manager Hossam El Badry says his side showed ‘great determination’ to win the Egypt Cup for the first time in a decade.
The Red Devils defeated Al Masry 2-1 in a dramatic final on Tuesday night to win the Egypt Cup for the first time 2007 and complete a domestic double, having also claimed the Egyptian Premier League title.
“Al Ahly players have shown great determination. Al Masry scored first, but the players were calm and had a desire to win. We dominated the game and missed several dangerous chances, but we didn’t lose hope,” El Badry said after the victory, as quoted by KingFut.
“Earning victories in the final minutes of the games is due to the players’ persistence.”
He added, “We wanted to end the cup drought and regain the title to please the fans.”
Al Ahly will now turn their attention to the CAF Champions League, with a two-legged quarterfinal tie against Tunisia’s Esperance de Tunis set for next month.
