Abdurhamn Mubark was the hero for Ethiopia as he grabbed a late equalizer, after Saifeldeen Malik had given Sudan the lead.
The encounter was played at the Hawassa International Stadium in the Ethiopian city of Awasa.
Sudan have participated in the CHAN finals once and they finished third in the 2011 tournament as the hosts.
Ethiopia have taken part in the last three CHAN finals. But they are yet to reach the knockout stages of the tournament.
The winner on aggregate between Sudan and Ethiopia will advance to next year's finals which will be hosted by Kenya.
