Ghana’s Black Stars returned to Accra yesterday on a chartered flight sponsored by captain Asamoah Gyan.
This is after the Ghanaian government allegedly pulled out of an initial agreement to fly the team out of Brazzaville on Tuesday night following their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Congo.
After defeating the Red Devils 5-1 to somewhat revive their hopes of qualification for Russia 2018, the Ghana team was facing a lengthy return to their home country via commercial routes.
This may have seen European-based players only returning to their clubs by Friday, which could have resulted in disciplinary action or the loss of a place in the weekend’s matchday squad.
Gyan didn’t play in the match in Brazzaville due to a groin strain, but still travelled with the team to provide moral support.
And his presence later ensured that Ghana were able to land back at Kotoka International Airport in Accra just four hours after the game in Congo.
