Platinum Stars and Chippa United will both be looking to bounce back from midweek defeats in the Absa Premiership when they meet at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on 16 September 2017, kick-off at 20h15.
Stars suffered a third successive league loss when they were beaten 2-0 at SuperSport United on September 12. The Rustenburg side was well in the contest for most of the match, but conceded two late goals to see coach Roger de Sa suffer a defeat in his club debut.
Dikwena will be desperate to put their first point(s) on the board and will hope for a vast improvement on their only other home match so far this term, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Maritzburg United in the opening round last month.
As for Chippa, they have had a mixed start to the season, with an opening round defeat to Orlando Pirates and a midweek home loss at the hands of Baroka FC sandwiching a promising 2-0 win over AmaZulu. The Eastern Cape side has potential, but they need to get the basics right - especially in defence.
The Chilli Boys’ 3-1 loss on September 12 at the hands of Bakgaga was a lesson at both ends of the field: they failed to turn their dominance of general play into goals, and they also fell short in keeping it tight at the back, making silly errors to concede the trio of goals.
In head-to-head stats, Stars and Chippa have met in eight league matches since 2012/13. The Chilli Boys have claimed three wins compared to two for Dikwena, with three matches ending in draws. Stars, though, have an unbeaten home record against Chippa, with two wins and two draws from four games as hosts.
Last season Dikwena took four points off the Chilli Boys, playing to a 1-1 draw in the Eastern Cape before claiming a 2-1 win in the return game in Rustenburg thanks to goals from Robert Ng’ambi and Benson Shilongo. The teams’ last four meetings have produced 15 goals.
Stars’ line-up from their 2-0 loss to SuperSport on September 12: Mzimela, Mabule, Mwedihanga, Mlilo (Monama 87’), Zulu, Mere, Mkhabela, Ng'ambi, Mbatha, Kunene (Nale 84’), Ntuli (Matlakala 63’).
Chippa’s line-up from their 3-1 loss to Baroka on September 12: Mhlongo, Mvelase, Macheke, Okwuosa, Maphanga, Mabaso, Zuke, Mayambela (Manzini 73’), Lentjies, Masuku (Mako 59’), Sekola (Mashego 52’).
