SuperSport United coach Eric Tinkler has explained how he reached the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals after overcoming Zesco United on the away goals last Saturday.

Following a 0-0 draw in the quarter-final first leg, Thuso Phala scored a brace to ensure they draw 2-2 against the Zambian side in the second leg.

John Ching'andu and David Owino scored for the hosts at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium last Saturday.

“We knew that we need to come here (Ndola) and not necessarily win but to get a scoring draw and we would go through, and that is precisely what we achieved,” Tinkler said.

“I explained to the players that we basically had 90 minutes in order to achieve that irrespective of whether we conceded or not but that shouldn’t change the fact that we are breaking the tie and that is exactly what we did.

“What we count as very important is what you do away from home rather than what you actually do at home."

SuperSport will now face Tunisia's Club Africain in the last four with the first leg of the semi-final set to be held on September 30 in Pretoria.
