USM Alger held Wydad Casablanca to a goalless draw in the 2017 CAF Champions League semi-final first-leg match at the Stade du 5 Juillet on Friday night.
Moroccan giants Wydad will host Algerian outfit Alger in the second-leg encounter on 20 October 2017.
The visitors suffered an early scare as Salaheddine Saidi sustained an injury a few minutes into the match.
But the midfielder, who scored an important goal against South African side Mamelodi Sundowns in Morocco last weekend, was able to continue with the game.
Wydad went into the encounter as the favourites, but Alger were able to contain them in the first-half.
As a result, the North African sides were locked at 0-0 during the half-time break.
A relatively quiet second-half followed as Alger and Wydad sides could not find the back of the net.
Ismail El-Haddad, an attack-minded player was introduced by Wydad in the 72nd minute as the visitors searched for the opening goal.
But it was the home side, who dominated in the closing stages of the encounter.
They were unable to beat Wydad goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi on the night and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
