Niger coach Soumaila Tiemogo says he cannot guarantee that the Junior Menas will go on to win the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup title in India.

The Junior Menas made history when they qualified for the finals for the first time after finishing fourth at the 2017 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

As a result, Niger were pitted against Korea DPR, Brazil and Spain in Group D, and Tiemogo spoke to FIFA.com ahead of the global competition.

“Unlike senior level, when you know who the star players are, it’s harder to judge in youth football,” said Tiemogo.

“If you asked Niger to knock out Ghana or Gabon at senior level, you’d doubt they could do it. But that’s just what we did at junior level. There’s a lot of talent in Niger.”

The Junior Menas will take on Korea in their first Group D match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi, India on Saturday.

“I can’t guarantee that we’ll go on and win the competition but I can guarantee that we’ll make people talk about us, just like we did in Africa," he added.

"Maybe we can’t work miracles, but we can do our best.”
