Tunisia are just a point away from securing qualification for the 2018 World Cup after they thrashed Guinea 4-1 on Saturday.

The result at the 28 September Stadium in Conakry - secured in the main by a hat-trick from Youssef Msakni - sees the Carthage Eagles move to within touching distance of a place in Russia 2018.

The North Africans may have claimed a resounding win, but they found themselves behind after 36 minutes when Bundesliga star Naby Keita opened the scoring.

Yet the half ended with parity restored when Msakni scored the first of his three goals, beating goalkeeper Abdul Aziz Keita just before the interval to make it 1-1.

The match remained in the balance for most of the first half, but swung decisively in Tunisia’s favour on 74 minutes when Msakni struck his second to put his side in the advantage.

Less than 10 minutes later they extended their lead when Mohamed Ben Amor made it 3-1, while the game ended poorly for the hosts, who had Keita sent off in injury time and allowed Msakni to complete his hat-trick in the sixth added minute.

Group A will wrap up in November 2017 when Tunisia host Libya and DR Congo welcome Guinea.
