Cape Verde coach Lucio Antunes says his side should forget about qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals which will be hosted by Russia.
This is after the Blue Sharks were defeated 2-0 by Senegal in a Group D match at the Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde in Praia on Saturday.
The defeat left Cape Verde placed third on the group standings with six points and they have one match left.
The leaders Senegal, who have two matches left, have eight points and only the group winners will qualify for the finals.
"We have six points, Senegal has eight, two matches (left)," Antunes told the media.
"We can accumulate nine points, Senegal with a draw comes to nine and has victories over us," he continued.
"South Africa have four points, if they win their last two games with Senegal, it is 10.
"So, our dream is over and we are going to try other dreams because life is like this," he addded.
"We live in dreams. This is over, let's unite the group and work so that the future is better," he concluded.
Cape Verde will face third-placed Burkina Faso, who also have six points from five games, in their last Group D match.
The encounter will be played at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou on 6 November 2017.
