Free State Stars will chase a third successive Absa Premiership win when they host Ajax Cape Town at Goble Park on 18 October 2017, kick-off at 19h30.

Stars claimed a second victory on the bounce when they beat Maritzburg United 1-0 away on September 29, with Sinethemba Jantjie’s second-half goal earning them three points.

Ea Lla Koto have yet to win at home this season, having held Bidvest Wits to a 2-2 draw and lost 1-2 against Mamelodi Sundowns in their two turns as hosts so far in 2017/18.

Ajax come into the match having suffered their third defeat of the season: Stanley Menzo’s side were beaten 2-0 at home by local rivals Cape Town City on September 30. The Cape side has managed just one league victory so far this season.

The Urban Warriors have claimed just one point from their three matches on the road thus far in 2017/18, though their last outing away was a creditable 2-2 draw at the in-form Baroka FC.

In head-to-head stats, Stars and Ajax have met in 28 league matches since 1999/2000. Ea Lla Koto have claimed 13 wins compared to seven for the Urban Warriors, while eight matches have been drawn. The Free State side boasts an unbeaten record at home in this rivalry, with 10 wins and four draws from 14 turns as hosts.

Last season the teams shared the spoils in both league matches: the game in the Free State ended in a 1-1 draw, while the return game in the ‘Mother City’ ended 2-2. Prior to those two stalemates, the teams had played to just one draw in their previous 12 league meetings.

Stars’ line-up from their 1-0 win over Maritzburg on September 29: Sangare, Mokhuoane (Hlubi 92'), Mobbie, Keita, Phungwayo, Mbhele, Vilakazi, Manqele (Dlamini 69'), Potsane, Anas, Jantjie (Mashego 78').

Ajax’s line-up from their 2-0 loss to CTC on September 30: Petersen, Evans, Nhlapo, Booysen, Lebusa, Pietersen (Uzoenyi 55'), Malepe, Margeman (Mdabuka 80'), Kabwe (Phohlongo 58'), Mosadi, Morris.
