Chippa United and Cape Town City will both be looking for a much-needed Absa Premiership win when they meet at Sisa Dukashe Stadium on 22 October 2017, kick-off at 15h30.
Chippa recorded a fifth successive draw in the league when they were held 0-0 at home by Maritzburg United on October 18. The Eastern Cape side has gone six league games without a win, but at least a defensive record of just two goals shipped in their last five encounters suggests they have a solid base to build on.
The Chilli Boys have had mixed results at home this season, with one win, one loss and two draws from four turns as hosts. This match against their Western Cape visitors will be a test of their mettle at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.
City suffered a second home league loss (and a third overall) when they were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Bloemfontein Celtic at the Athlone Stadium on October 17.
The Cape Town side has picked up six points from three away matches this season, having beaten Bidvest Wits and Ajax Cape Town on the road, and gone down 1-0 at the hands of Orlando Pirates in Soweto.
In head-to-head stats, Chippa and City have met in just two previous league matches. Both of those encounters took place last season, with the Citizens claiming a league ‘double’ by winning 2-1 in the Eastern Cape and 4-1 in the return game in the Western Cape.
Chippa’s line-up from their 0-0 draw with Maritzburg on October 17: Akpeyi, Macheke, Konqobe, Okwuosa, Maphanga, Mvelase (Mdlinzo 70’), Zuke, Mabaso, Mayambela (Sekola 76’), Lentjies, Manzini (Julies 79’).
City’s line-up from their 2-1 loss to Celtic on October 2017: Stephens, Dove, Fielies, Gumede, Kobola (Majoro 77'), Putsche, Nodada (Lakay 86'), Modise (Masina 65'), Martin, Patosi, Obinna Nsofor.
