Citizens succumb to defeat in Mdantsane

Chippa United snapped a six-game winless run in the Absa Premiership as they came from behind to beat Cape Town City 2-1 at the Sisa Duktiashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Sunday.

Victory moves the Chilli Boys up to eighth place on the log standings, with City stuck in fifth following their second successive defeat.

The Citizens looked the better team in the early exchanges and after Daniel Akpeyi denied Craig Martin from close range, Lyle Lakay found a way past the Nigerian goal-minder.

The wing-wizard hammering home on the volley in the 18th minute, following good work by Lehlohonolo Majoro.

Chippa's first chance fell to Mark Mayambela in the 32nd minute, but after doing so well to find space inside the area, he failed to hit the target with his left-footed effort.

City well worth their 1-0 lead at the break.

The Chilli Boys came out a different unit following the interval and were well worth their equalizer in the 50th minute. Abel Mabaso's cross-come-shot getting the better of Sage Stephens.

Teboho Moloi's men continued to create chance after chance and duly hit the front in the 72nd minute. Katlego Mashego with the easiest of finishes following a mad scramble inside the area.

City looked for a away back into the tie with Benni McCarthy introducing Ayanda Patosi and Victor Obinna, but it was not to be as Moloi's troops held on for their first win under his watchful eye.
