Liverpool FC central defender Joel Matip was disappointed by the way they defended against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Reds were thumped 4-1 by Spurs in an English Premier League match which was played at the Wembley Stadium in London.

"We gave them the opportunities,” Matip told the media after the match.

“It was not like they played the perfect balls, we gave them the opportunities - we have to stop the mistakes.

Liverpool's consolation goal was scored by Egyptian international Mohamed Salah in the first-half.

"Most teams at home with the stand in their back are always stronger," the Cameroonian international continued.

"(Away from home) I am a defender and I should take care of this.

"We don't think about the title race at the moment, we only try to get back in a good mood for next week."

The towering defender has featured in all of Liverpool's nine league matches this season.
