South African Football Association (SAFA) boss Danny Jordaan has offered words of support to Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke after he missed out on the FIFA Puskas Award.
Masuluke’s spectacular overhead kick against Orlando Pirates last year was beaten to first prize by Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, who netted with a scorpion kick against Crystal Palace in last season’s Premier League.
Jordaan said: “Well done to Oscarine for flying the South African and Africa’s flag high.
“In spite of the outcome, you have done the continent proud by making it into the top three of such a top award. We are really proud of you.”
Masuluke received 27.48% of the vote compared to 36.17% for Giroud and 20.47% for Deyna Castellanos of Venezuela.
