Bidvest Wits will chase back-to-back wins in the Absa Premiership when they host Chippa United at Bidvest Stadium on 1 November 2017.
Wits claimed just their second league win this season when they defeated log leaders Baroka FC 1-0 on October 22. Vincent Pule’s first-half goal proved the difference between the teams and helped lift the Johannesburg club out of the relegation zone.
The Clever Boys have recorded one win and two losses from three home matches this season. Their lone win as hosts was a 1-0 triumph over Orlando Pirates in September, and this will be their first home match since that three-pointer.
Chippa have gone six league matches without defeat and claimed their second win of the season when they overcame Cape Town City 2-1 at home on October 22. The Eastern Cape side came from a goal down to secure the victory - the first of coach Teboho Moloi’s reign.
The Chilli Boys have yet to win on the road this season, though, having recorded three draws and a loss from their four away matches. Their last game outside of the Eastern Cape was a 1-1 draw at Golden Arrows in late September.
In head-to-head stats, Wits and Chippa have met in eight league matches since 2012/13. The Clever Boys have claimed three wins compared to one for the Chilli Boys, while three matches have been drawn. The Johannesburg side boasts an unbeaten home record in league matches against Chippa, with two wins and two draws from four matches.
Last season Wits took four points off Chippa: the eventual champions won 1-0 at home in the first half of the campaign, before playing out a goalless stalemate in the return game in the Eastern Cape. The Clever Boys have managed just four goals in an as many home matches against the Chilli Boys.
Wits’ line-up from their 1-0 win over Baroka on October 22: Peters, Allie, Hlatshwayo, Khumalo, Klate, Monare [Claasen 46’ (Scott 70’)], Gamal (Rodgers 83’), Pelembe, Pule, Hlanti, Mlambo.
Chippa’s line-up from their 2-1 win over City on October 22: Akpeyi, Macheke, Konqobe, Okwuosa, Maphanga, Zuke (Mvelase 68'), Mabaso, Lentjies, Mdlinzo (Masuku 52'), Mayambela, Manzini (Mashego 59').
