Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City will meet for a Telkom Knockout battle when they clash in the quarterfinals on 4 November 2017 at Orlando Stadium, kick-off at 20h15.

Pirates advanced into the last eight of the TKO thanks to a narrow 1-0 away win over Golden Arrows last weekend. It kept up the Soweto side’s 100 percent record against the Durban team in cup competitions and arrived thanks to an inspirational performance from Thabo Qalinge, who also scored the decisive goal.

The Buccaneers have won the TKO just once (2011) and will hope to add to that lone title this year to secure a first piece of silverware under coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.

Polokwane, meanwhile, squeezed through the quarterfinals on penalties against Ajax Cape Town, having held visitors Ajax Cape Town to a goalless draw in Limpopo. It was the first time Rise and Shine successfully made it through the TKO’s first round, having fallen out of the last 16 in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Pirates and Polokwane have met in just one previous cup match: a last 16 Telkom Knockout clash in 2014 which saw the Buccaneers claim a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Issa Sarr and Qalinge.

Across all competitions, the teams have met 10 times since Rise and Shine’s promotion to the top flight in 2013. Pirates have claimed four wins compared to one for the Limpopo team, while five matches have finished in draws.

That was the case when the sides last played each other, a 2-2 draw in a league match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in late September, though Bucs needed a last-gasp equaliser from striker Thamsanqa Gabuza to secure a share of the spoils.

Pirates come into the match having suffered a 3-1 home loss at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns in a midweek league match, while Polokwane held Kaizer Chiefs to a goalless home draw.
